First of all, let me thank 10th Avenue North for such a soul stirring concert. I came to the concert very excited to hear them. I was not only blown away by their love for our Savior, but I was inspired by their willingness to serve Jesus Christ in such a way as to glorify Him and not themselves. They made it all about Jesus…which is what we’re supposed to do. We are not called to look down upon and gossip about other churches that do things methodically different than we do. I could not stay silent any longer as I have been reading Pastor Whalen’s comments. I also attended Trinity Baptist College, which I enjoyed tremendously. That school and church are doing more for God than I can even begin to tell. That church is filled with the Holy Spirit. They are giving teenagers (and adults) an outlet on a Saturday night to go and worship Jesus instead of being out on the streets getting into who knows how much trouble. The teens that were there were committed to worshiping God. AND the Gospel was presented. Biblical terms such as propitiation were even used and properly explained. So, Pastor Whalen, when you talk about their lyrics being weak, you really should read them. Those guys know what they are talking about when it comes to God’s Word. Maybe we would be reaching more people for Christ if we stopped looking at what other churches are successfully doing and criticizing them for it. God has used Trinity’s methods to reach many in Jacksonville…and around the world….for Christ. So, if you think that teenagers today are going to listen to good old Southern Gospel and learn Soul Stirring Hymns…you’re wrong. Are those songs good…absolutely. Are they the only good songs? Hardly. I thank God that He’s still inspiring great songwriters (ie. 10th Avenue North) to teach today’s generation how to honor and glorify Him.

Pastor Whelan… check out the 10th Ave N. concert just to make sure you’re right. I’ve been to a few and I’d have to say that Jesus is in the room when they perform. I’ve felt it. The message and spoken word between songs are as powerful as the music and lyrics. These guys are a great example of humility and their music is impressive. Maybe God wants you to take another step in your walk with him. We can all open our eyes a little more, me included.

I too am a graduate of Trinity Baptist College and am encouraged by what it is becoming! It is nice for an independent Baptist institution to finally take a stand for the true fundamentals of our faith and not the legalistic pharisaical preferences that have recently defined and greatly hindered the independent baptist movement. According to Pastor’s Whalen’s church statement of faith, the SBC, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Focus on the Family, Promise Keepers, and Campus Crusade for Christ are all associations that God commands Christians be separate from; so I suppose to be grouped in with them might not be such a bad thing. Pastor Whalen, I would encourage you to read Romans 14, and then read it again, and then read it again. You stress the autonomy and accountability of every local congregation but have no problem passing judgment on those for whom you are not accountable. “Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant?”

You guys are amazing and have blessed my life. I’m also a pastor and I’m so glad you do what you do and use the words you use! We are imperfect people who struggle each and every day but we serve an amazing, all knowing, loving God. Keep up the great work. Keep your eyes on the Lord alone. May God bless you.

Pastor Whalen, I am extremely disappointed in your comments. I too came from the R & R generation, but I totally disagree with you. Most likely you have not listened to their music. It is very narrow minded to limit music that is pleasing to god as only being traditional. This music speaks to many including me and prepares me to get in the right frame of mind for worship. Do you think Jesus would come in and make those that show up for this concert leave because of the music? People like different things. Some like traditional Christian, some like Contemporary Christian, some like singing without instruments. Does this mean they are not saved? No. I encourage you to get more deeply involved reading the scripture and searching your heart as to what Jesus would do. From my understanding, the church did not bring this group in, someone else is using the church for the concert. God Bless!

I am a graduate of Trinity Baptist College and I am ashamed of what it has become…inviting religious rock groups to draw a crowd. Imagine!
This is not of God and I will not be there of course. I was saved out of a R and R lifestyle and I am not coming back. Your lyrics are extremly week and you encourage carnality in a believer.

I just had to say that you guys are awesome. You inspire me everyday and i just love how much you guys are genuine. There are so many bands out there that just go with the flow, but you guys live the life, and speak the word as well. It is very amazing to even think about you guys. I would love to go to every concert you guys give if i could.
No matter what the world throws at you, remember that God loves you and he loves doing his will through you. If you allow it you can end up bringing millions to Christ in your lifetime. Just keep taking little baby steps forward, focusing on the next step, not where it will lead.
